Hello Family and Friends:

Monday morning, November 6, 2006.

New Year's Resolution.... for me. That I will, not less than once a month, send a "reflection" to you. I have a number of motivations.

I do count on you as family and friends. And writing to you gives me the opportunity to share reflections and thoughts. If you care to write back to me, or better still, to call, please do so. If you want me to call you (I have 24 hour 'free' phone time) send a suggestion as to when we might schedule a time to talk.

I will also be writing, on occasion, because I may suggest actions. I hope that my reflections, or the reflections that I share from others, will encourage you to take action where and when it is appropriate.

Ernie Barr, who was the chair of the church board when I was pastor in Lafayette, IN recalled, in his mind, how some pastors 'ride a hobby horse.' He didn't accuse me of that. He was simply suggesting that perhaps sticking with one familiar theological perspective might be avoided.

Well, for the most part these reflections will be single-minded. At this point in time, for me, that's the way it is. My philosophy is that if you and I can help to correct one injustice, we can, thereby, have an impact on the injustices in other settings. In this case, the injustices are the inequities thrust upon glbt (gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgendered) persons.

My methodology will be to attach the reflection. If that does not work for you, please let me know, and I will put the reflection directly into this text message.

Please be free to share this reflection with others. And perhaps it would be appropriate, in sharing it with others, to add your own comments.

I will also, at times, be sharing my reflections with the VOS (Voices for an Open Spirit) listing. Therefore, some of you will receive the message twice.

Disclaimer: I will try to write intelligently. Please be free to make suggestions about how I can make my message stronger and clearer.

Shalom,
Ralph
