Resources

This section contains papers and articles as well as annotated listings of books on subjects of interest to Brethren and to supporters of Voices for an Open Spirit (VOS).

These five categories reflect priorities in the VOS Mission Statement, but they are only a beginning. More categories will be added as called for. The resources that appear in each category are also only a beginning. New resources will be added constantly.

You are invited to download these resources, make copies, and distribute them. If you want to mass produce any resource item, please write for permission.

  • Spirit
A annotated listing of books to strengthen and deepen the spirit.
  • Biblical Inspiration and Authority
Books, papers, and articles to help us understand where the Bible came from and how it guides our lives and to reflect on how Brethren regard the Bible and agree or disagree on its authority and inspiration.
  • Human Sexuality
Books, papers, and articles on how sexuality is integrated into a life of faith, how Brethren regard sexuality, and in particular how the church is dealing with questions of sexual orientation.
  • Decision-Making
Papers and articles on how the Church of the Brethren makes decisions, exercises authority, handles controversy, deals with minority opinions, and finds or does not find common ground across differences. Also general resources on decision-making.
  • Sermons and Addresses
    A collection of speeches -- engaging, thought-provoking, and well-written.
  • Thoughts and Reflections
A collection of thoughtful and reflective works, often intensely personal.
